Father Joe's Turkey Trot 5K,

Father Joe’s Turkey Trot 5k

This is our 2nd annual Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot 5k, years ago you could never get me up early on a day off but I quickly fell in love with our new family tradition. An early 5k, sets the tone for the whole day and its all for a good cause.

This year, we decided to run with Taro our 10 year old Vizsla. We lost our female Vizsla, Amber just weeks earlier and thought brining Taro with us on a morning run might help cheer him up. He took the loss of his best friend hard, as did we. But one thing that cheers this pup up is running, he loves it and hasn’t slowed down yet.

Being his first 5k we were a little concerned on how he’d do in a big crowd with other dogs but he did great… and having him there motivated us to run a little faster and for sure uplifted our spirits that morning. Father Joe's Turkey Trot, 5k, vizsla, miles and pace
The Father Joe’s annual 5k Turkey Trot is held each Thanksgiving Day morning in beautiful Balboa Park and brings out thousands of walkers and runners, the course is easy and winds through the Hillcrest Community back onto Zoo Drive and ends in the middle of the park.

Even though the course is easy, this one is always tough for me. It falls a week after theRock ‘n’ Roll Las Vegas Marathon & Half Marathon and I always think to myself, you just ran a Half Marathon, you can’t power through this 5k. I’ve come to accept this will always be a fun, slow run for me.
